A “Book of Shadows” is a collection of rituals, magical teachings and religious instructions which seems to have originated with Gerald Gardner, the “Father of Wicca” in the 1950’s. In essence, as far as my understanding goes, it is a witch’s spell book. Occult texts have been around for a very long time, and have carried many designations. I think that “Book of Shadows” is an apt name for a gathering of those knowledges which drift ever at the dusky edges of scientific reason. My fellow travelers often know a great deal more than I about the things contained within, but my exploration of paganism, magic and the otherworlds is growing by leaps and bounds. Here I can catalogue what they have taught me and what I have learned from my own searching in the shadows.
