Knowledge is a wonderful thing. An amazing tool, that like all tools, is neither good nor evil. Such moral designations are the domain of the user and not the domain of the tool which is used. Old adages have professed that knowledge is power, or that it is an end unto itself. I can agree with such venerable wisdom in so far as I accept that it is better to have it than to not have it.

Is knowledge fact or opinion? Is it truth or falsehood? I believe that we can benefit from any form of knowledge if we might understand the point of view of the truth-teller, or the motivation of the deceiver. Discerning one from the other is the tricky part and seeking such understanding occupies a great deal of my time. For to know is not always to understand, and what we know is not always objective truth and may only be called truth by those who hold a certain viewpoint. For whatever reason we acquire knowledge, it is always valuable. It informs us about our world, the people in it, and the thoughts and reasoning that drive those people.

I love to learn new things, to weigh them on the scales of truth, and to peel back the layers of those around me by scrutinizing the beliefs they hold and the knowledges they cling to. The only danger which knowledge truly presents is the possibility of forgetting that knowledge is always just a tool and that it must be used in order to benefit the user. Rudyard Kipling cautioned us in one of my favorite of his poems, “If you can think, but not make thoughts your aim.” Here I will store a list of the books and blogs from which I have sought knowledge and digested the opinions of.
